PMS & AIF

PMS and AIF: Access to professionally managed, specialised investment opportunities

Portfolio Management Services from ₹50 lakh, Alternative Investment Funds from ₹1 crore. We are a distributor of both — the managing is done by SEBI-registered portfolio managers and fund managers, not by us.

At HAWMS, we distribute and facilitate access to carefully selected PMS and AIF opportunities from SEBI-registered portfolio managers and fund managers. We help investors understand the strategy, structure, risk, fees and suitability of each opportunity before making an investment decision.

PMS and AIF solutions can be particularly relevant for investors seeking professional portfolio management, differentiated strategies, greater portfolio customisation and access to specialised investment opportunities.

The investment decisions and portfolio management are carried out by the respective SEBI-registered portfolio managers and fund managers. HAWMS acts as a distributor and investment facilitator and does not undertake the portfolio or fund management itself.

Portfolio Management Services

A SEBI-registered portfolio manager runs a portfolio for you. Unlike a mutual fund, the securities are held in your own name in your own demat account — you can see every holding and every transaction, and the portfolio is yours rather than a unit in a pooled vehicle.

Discretionary PMS

The portfolio manager makes the decisions within an agreed mandate. You do not approve individual trades.

Non-discretionary PMS

The portfolio manager recommends and you decide. More control, more involvement required from you.

Advisory PMS

The portfolio manager provides investment advice and recommendations based on the agreed investment mandate. You retain control over the final investment decisions and approve the trades before they are executed.

What it costs

Fee structures vary between managers: a fixed management fee, a performance-linked fee above a hurdle rate, or a combination, plus brokerage, custody, statutory levies and GST. The complete fee schedule is in the Disclosure Document, and we will walk you through what it actually adds up to on your amount before you sign anything.

SEBI-mandated minimum investment: ₹50 lakh.

This is a floor set by regulation under the SEBI (Portfolio Managers) Regulations, 2020, not a threshold we have chosen. No portfolio manager can accept less.

Alternative Investment Funds

Privately pooled investment vehicles registered with SEBI, across three categories:

▪  Category I — venture capital, SME, infrastructure and social impact funds

▪  Category II — private equity and private credit funds, the largest category by assets

▪  Category III — strategies that may use leverage and derivatives, including long-short funds

SEBI-mandated minimum investment: ₹1 crore.

Most AIFs draw capital down over time rather than taking it all at once, and lock it up for a fixed term — commonly several years — with no secondary market. Assume you cannot get out early, because usually you cannot.

What we do, and what we do not

We do

We do not

Explain how each structure works, what it costs and what can go wrong

Manage portfolios or take investment decisions

Help you decide whether PMS or an AIF is appropriate at all — including telling you when it is not

Hold your funds or securities at any point

Introduce you to the portfolio managers and fund sponsors we are empanelled with, and arrange meetings

Guarantee, assure or project any return

Help you read the Disclosure Document or private placement memorandum before you commit

Publish or forward strategy performance figures

Handle onboarding paperwork and stay as your point of contact afterwards

Act as a SEBI-registered Portfolio Manager — we are not one

Before you invest

▪  Read the Disclosure Document (PMS) or private placement memorandum (AIF) in full — not the factsheet, the document

▪  Understand the fee structure on your actual amount, including the performance fee and the hurdle

▪  Understand the exit terms: exit loads, lock-in, and how long redemption actually takes

▪  Be satisfied you can leave the money alone for the full term

▪  Check the tax treatment with your chartered accountant — it differs between PMS, AIF categories, and mutual funds, and it is not our field

HAWMS Financial Services Pvt. Ltd. is a distributor of Portfolio Management Services and Alternative Investment Funds. We are not a SEBI-registered Portfolio Manager and do not manage portfolios or hold client funds or securities. Portfolios are managed by the SEBI-registered portfolio manager, or the fund, named in your agreement. PMS carries a SEBI-mandated minimum investment of ₹50 lakh and AIFs a minimum of ₹1 crore. Both are high-risk and illiquid, and are intended only for investors who can absorb substantial loss. Returns are not assured and past performance of any strategy is not indicative of future results. Read the Disclosure Document, the PMS agreement or the private placement memorandum in full before investing. We are remunerated by the portfolio manager or fund; see our How We Are Paid page.

We provide expert guidance and personalized strategies to help you achieve financial growth.
